About Us

Nyia Dykes, Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

“I define love thus: The will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.”

- M. Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled

Originally cited in bell hook’s All About Love, this quote has become a personal philosophy that I believe describes the essence of relationships. Love is growth. Love is expansion. Love is careful, purposeful advancement for the sake of oneself or another.

Love and care are practices that often require re-commitment—sometimes daily, even hourly. Offering the kind of support that helps people return to that commitment, both individually and together, is what I do best!

I have a strong history and knowledge in working with:

  • Infidelity (emotional, financial, etc.)
  • Couples in transitional states i.e. premarital, preparing for the arrival of a baby, exploring and negotiating non-monogamy, etc.
  • Substance abuse or disorders in the context of a romantic relationship.

I hold a Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy from Northwestern University’s Family Institute. As a systemic therapist, I use Emotionally Focused and Contextual Therapy to support the development of empathy, understanding and compassion in loving relationships.
